ACCELERATE NEUROLOGICAL HEALING
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
An optional post-ibogaine therapy for patients seeking enhanced recovery from brain injury, neurological conditions, and cognitive impairment.
WHAT IS HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) involves breathing 100% pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber at levels higher than normal atmospheric pressure. This dramatically increases the amount of oxygen dissolved in your blood plasma, delivering healing oxygen to damaged tissues throughout your body—especially your brain.
This is not a standalone treatment. At The Iboga Wellness Institute, HBOT is offered exclusively as a complementary therapy for patients who have completed ibogaine treatment and wish to accelerate their neurological recovery and cognitive healing.
5-MeO-DMT is a powerful entheogenic medicine known for facilitating mystical experiences, ego dissolution, and deep spiritual insight. Often described as one of the most profound psychedelic experiences available, it’s used therapeutically to access states of consciousness that can catalyze lasting transformation.
This is not a standalone treatment. At Iboga Wellness Institute, 5-MeO-DMT is offered exclusively as a complementary therapy for patients who have already completed ibogaine treatment and wish to deepen their healing work.
THE POWER OF SEQUENCING
Why After Ibogaine?
Ibogaine creates neurological reset and interrupts disease processes. HBOT, when used strategically after ibogaine, can:
- Accelerate brain healing from traumatic injury and neurological damage
- Enhance neuroplasticity and cognitive function recovery
- Reduce neuroinflammation that drives disease progression
- Promote neurogenesis (growth of new brain cells and connections)
- Improve oxygen delivery to damaged brain tissue
- Support mitochondrial function essential for neural repair
The combination—ibogaine first for neurological reset, then HBOT for accelerated healing—allows patients to maximize recovery from conditions affecting brain function.
WHO WE SERVE
Discover if you Qualify
This optional therapy serves patients who have completed ibogaine treatment and are seeking enhanced recovery from neurological conditions, brain injury, or cognitive impairment. This therapy may help if you are:

Recovering from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
You've experienced concussion, blast injury, chronic post-concussion syndrome, or TBI-related cognitive deficits that persist despite ibogaine treatment.

Managing Neurological Disease
You have Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, or other neurodegenerative conditions where enhanced oxygenation could support neural repair and function.

Addressing Cognitive Impairment
You're experiencing memory loss, difficulty concentrating, processing speed deficits, or executive function challenges from any neurological cause.

Seeking Enhanced Recovery
You want to maximize neurological healing, accelerate cognitive improvement, and optimize the neuroplastic changes initiated by ibogaine therapy.
Important Contraindications
HBOT is not suitable for everyone. Patients with untreated pneumothorax (collapsed lung), certain ear/sinus conditions, severe claustrophobia, active chemotherapy treatment, or pregnancy should not pursue this therapy. Full medical screening determines eligibility.
The Experience
Sessions last 60-90 minutes in a comfortable, pressurized chamber where you breathe pure oxygen through a mask. The chamber pressure gradually increases to 1.5-2.5 times normal atmospheric pressure, then maintains that level throughout treatment before gradually returning to normal.

During Your Session
Most patients describe HBOT sessions as relaxing and comfortable. You can read, listen to music, or simply rest during treatment. Some experience mild ear pressure (similar to flying) during pressurization, which equalizes easily. Typical protocol: Multiple sessions over days or weeks, scheduled based on your condition and recovery goals. Our physicians determine optimal frequency and duration.

Treatment Protocol
Typical protocol: Multiple sessions over days or weeks, scheduled based on your condition and recovery goals. Our physicians determine optimal frequency and duration. Post-session: Most patients feel energized and clear-headed. Benefits accumulate over multiple treatments as healing mechanisms activate.
Medical Safety
Your safety is paramount. HBOT is administered with comprehensive medical oversight, continuous monitoring, and proven safety protocols developed over decades of clinical use. Our physicians ensure each session is tailored to your specific health status and treatment goals.
Pre-session screening:
Our physicians conduct cardiovascular assessment, psychological readiness evaluation, contraindication review, and detailed informed consent discussing all risks and expectations before proceeding.
During session:
You receive continuous vital sign monitoring with a physician present throughout the entire experience. Emergency equipment is immediately accessible in a comfortable, secure environment designed for safety.
Post-session:
Medical observation continues until you're completely baseline and stable. An integration therapy session follows immediately to process the experience, with continued support throughout your remaining stay.
WHAT RESEARCH SHOWS
The Science Behind HBOT
Peer-reviewed research confirms HBOT improves brain function, reduces inflammation, and enhances neuroplasticity. Brain imaging validates measurable healing—this is evidence-based medicine, not experimental therapy.

Traumatic Brain Injury
Studies show HBOT significantly improves cognitive function and reduces post-concussion symptoms, even years after injury. Brain imaging confirms increased metabolism and improved connectivity in affected regions.

PTSD & Combat Trauma
Randomized trials demonstrate 60 sessions of HBOT reduce PTSD symptoms by 30-40%, improve brain microstructure in trauma-affected regions, with sustained improvements lasting months post-treatment.

Addiction Recovery
Research shows HBOT helps patients reduce methadone doses, experience 50% fewer withdrawal symptoms, manage pain without additional opioids, and maintain recovery gains long-term.

Neurological Conditions
Clinical evidence supports HBOT for reducing inflammation, slowing disease progression in conditions like MS, improving motor function in Parkinson's, and enhancing stroke recovery outcomes.
Integration Support & Availability
HBOT sessions integrate into your daily recovery routine. Our medical team tracks your progress and adjusts protocols based on your response and goals.
AVAILABILITY
HBOT is an optional add-on exclusively for patients who’ve completed ibogaine treatment. Pricing and session packages are provided during private consultation based on your condition and goals. Not included in standard program pricing; requires separate medical clearance.

FAQ
Questions We Often Hear
How long is each session?
60-90 minutes inside the chamber, plus 15-20 minutes for compression/decompression. Plan for approximately 2 hours total per visit.
Is it claustrophobic?
Our chambers are spacious, clear acrylic tubes with excellent visibility. You can watch movies, listen to music, or sleep. Most patients find it relaxing rather than anxiety-provoking.
When can I start after ibogaine?
Typically 3-7 days post-ibogaine, once you’re medically stable and cleared by our physicians.
Does insurance cover HBOT?
For FDA-approved conditions (wound healing, carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression sickness), yes. For TBI, PTSD, and addiction recovery, typically no—these are considered off-label uses.
What does it feel like?
Pressure changes feel similar to airplane takeoff/landing. Your ears may “pop” as you equalize pressure. Some patients feel slight warmth. Most describe it as peaceful and restful.
Are there side effects?
Most common: temporary ear pressure, mild sinus discomfort, fatigue after sessions. Rare: oxygen toxicity (prevented by air breaks), barotrauma (prevented by proper equalization training).
Can I do HBOT at home?
Home chambers exist but operate at much lower pressures (1.3 ATA) with lower oxygen concentrations—not equivalent to medical-grade HBOT at our facility. Clinical benefits require proper pressure and pure oxygen delivery.
