Your Questions About Ibogaine Treatment Answered

We know that choosing ibogaine therapy is a significant decision. Below are the most important questions we hear from prospective patients and their families, answered with the transparency you deserve.

THE BASICS

About Ibogaine

Ibogaine is a plant-based psychoactive medicine derived from the root bark of the Tabernanthe iboga shrub, native to West Africa. It’s used in medically supervised settings to treat addiction, PTSD, traumatic brain injury, depression, anxiety, several neurological conditions, and for personal optimization (cognitive clarity, performance, and deep personal growth).

It’s a medicine when administered under medical supervision with cardiac monitoring. Used outside of that, it’s dangerous. We treat it like the powerful medical tool it is, with EKGs, IV access, continuous monitoring, and physicians on site.

The iboga shrub, native to Gabon and Cameroon. It’s been used ceremonially by the Bwiti people for centuries. Modern medical use began in the 1960s.

Iboga is the whole plant root bark. Ibogaine is the primary active alkaloid extracted from it. Most clinical treatment uses purified ibogaine HCl for accurate dosing.

Unlike psilocybin or MDMA, ibogaine isn’t just a guided experience, it physically resets brain chemistry. It interrupts opioid withdrawal within 24-36 hours, something no other psychedelic does. And it lasts: people report effects for weeks to months.

No. Ayahuasca is shorter, more emotional, and ceremony-driven. Ibogaine is longer (12+ hours of inner work, ~3 days total), more medical, and produces lasting brain changes. Different tool for a different job.

THE SCIENCE

How It Works

It promotes neuroplasticity, the growth of new neural connections, while resetting brain pathways involved in addiction, trauma, and mood. It acts on multiple neurotransmitter systems at once (dopamine, serotonin, NMDA, kappa-opioid).

Your brain’s ability to form new connections and change. Ibogaine opens a window of heightened neuroplasticity, research shows this window lasts about 90 days post-treatment, which is why the first 3 months are critical for forming new habits.

The long-acting metabolite ibogaine becomes in your body. It stays in your system for weeks and is part of why the anti-craving effects last so long.

Yes, research using EEG and MRI scans shows measurable changes in brain function after a single treatment, with sustained improvements out to 12 months in Stanford’s veteran TBI study.

Most clients report lasting changes, but the work doesn’t end when you leave. The first 90 days of integration determine whether the changes stick.

Conditions We Treat

Addiction (opioids, alcohol, stimulants, polysubstance), PTSD, treatment-resistant depression, anxiety rooted in trauma, complex grief, traumatic brain injury (TBI), post-concussion syndrome, suspected CTE, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and optimization (for high-performers and individuals pursuing deep personal growth, cognitive clarity, and peak performance).

It’s not a cure, it’s a powerful tool that interrupts the physical dependence and gives you a fresh start. Long-term success depends on what you do after. Studies show 70-80% sustained abstinence at 6 months when paired with structured aftercare.

Yes. Clients dependent on opioids typically experience withdrawal elimination within 24-36 hours of administration. This is one of the most studied uses of ibogaine.

Yes, though fentanyl has unique challenges. Our medical team handles the stabilization protocol carefully. Honest answer: fentanyl detox is harder than heroin detox, and we’ll talk through what to expect.

Clinical data shows roughly 70-80% reduction in alcohol cravings after treatment. We’ve treated many alcohol-dependent clients successfully.

Yes. Ibogaine resets the dopamine system, which is exactly what stimulant addiction disrupts.

Stanford’s published research showed 88% reduction in PTSD symptoms one month after treatment, and 84% sustained remission at 12 months. Our PTSD clients are some of our most dramatic outcomes.

Yes. The same Stanford study with Special Operations veterans showed significant improvements in cognitive function, mood, and disability scores. TBI is personal for one of our founders, it’s part of why IWI exists.

Many of our Parkinson’s clients report significant tremor reduction, better motor control, improved sleep, and cognitive clarity. Ibogaine triggers GDNF production, a protein that protects dopamine neurons. It’s not a cure, but the results can be life-changing for the right candidate.

MS clients commonly report reduced inflammation, improved mobility, and decreased fatigue. We approach MS with low-dose protocols.

Treatment-resistant depression, where SSRIs, SNRIs, ketamine, and ECT haven’t worked, is one of our specialties. The mechanism is fundamentally different from antidepressants.

Yes, especially anxiety rooted in trauma. We’ll dig into the source during your screening.

Ibogaine’s NMDA receptor antagonism interrupts pain signaling. Many chronic pain clients see significant relief, especially those whose pain has driven them toward opioid dependence.

CTE can only be definitively diagnosed post-mortem, but clients with suspected CTE often report symptom improvement and slowed deterioration.

Possibly, but we evaluate carefully. Eating disorders can cause electrolyte imbalances that are dangerous with ibogaine. Your medical team will assess.

THE CLINIC

About IWI

A medically supervised ibogaine treatment clinic specializing in addiction, PTSD, TBI, neurological conditions, and optimization. We’ve safely guided over 100 clients through transformation and refined our protocols across 3,000+ treatments.

Our treatment facility is in Cozumel, Mexico. Corporate headquarters is in Columbus, Ohio.

Ibogaine is currently illegal in the United States (Schedule I). Mexico has a clear legal pathway for medically supervised ibogaine treatment. Plus Cozumel is one of the safest medical tourism destinations in the world.

Easy direct flights from the US (Houston, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta), English widely spoken, low crime, excellent medical infrastructure, calm Caribbean setting that supports healing.

We’ve been refining ibogaine protocols for over 20 years collectively as a team. The institute itself is the realization of that experience.

IWI was co-founded by Mike Powers, James Collins (Chief Executive Officer), and Guy Collins (Chief Financial Officer). Each brings complementary experience from outside the conventional psychedelic-medicine space, a perspective that shapes how IWI operates as both a clinical program and a serious business.

Both. We’re a medical clinic with the comfort and serenity of a high-end retreat. Real doctors, real nurses, real EKGs, and beautiful surroundings that support healing.

We keep groups small to ensure individual attention. Speak with our team for current capacity.

Our Team

Dr. Omar A. Calderón, Chief Medical Director. Licensed MD, 10+ years emergency medicine, 5+ years clinical ibogaine experience. Luisa Cab, RN, Head Nurse. Daisy Silva, Clinical Director, Integration Specialist, and Nutritionist. Ray Rodriguez, Psychedelic Integration Coach, certified through Being True To You.

You’ll be assigned a dedicated point of contact from our clinical team, with an integration coach available for therapeutic support and our Chief Medical Director overseeing your medical care.

Yes. Continuous medical supervision throughout the active treatment phase, with physician check-ins every 2-4 hours and the ability to respond to any emergency within 60 seconds.

Yes, all of our staff is fluent in English. You won’t run into language barriers with us, in transit, or at the airport. Cozumel is heavily English-speaking.

Programs & Treatment Options

Six programs: Medical Conditions Program (Parkinson’s, MS, TBI, chronic pain), Mental Health Program (depression, anxiety, PTSD), Detoxification Program (opioids, alcohol, stimulants), Optimization Program (high-performers and executives seeking cognitive clarity, peak performance, and deep personal growth), 5-MeO-DMT Therapy, and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT).

That’s exactly what your free 45-minute consultation is for. We’ll listen to what’s going on and recommend the right path.

Program length varies from 5 to 30 days depending on what you’re working on and which program you’re in. Detox clients typically stay longer.

Mornings include light food, hydration, and group time. Treatment days include preparation, medical setup, the ibogaine session itself (~12 hours), and then 24-48 hours of close monitoring and integration. Non-treatment days include massage, meditation, breathwork, journaling, integration sessions, and rest.

Most clients have one flood dose treatment. Some conditions benefit from booster sessions or microdosing protocols, your medical team designs the plan around your goals.

Flood dose (full therapeutic dose for addiction and deep psychological work), low-dose (gentler for medical conditions or older clients), microdosing (extended treatment for neurological repair), and booster sessions for sustained results.

A separate, shorter, more mystical experience offered as an add-on after ibogaine. We screen carefully for it, not everyone is a candidate.

Pressurized oxygen treatment that helps tissue healing, brain recovery, and inflammation. Often added for TBI, post-concussion, MS, and chronic pain clients.

Safety & Medical Screening

When done with proper screening, EKG monitoring, electrolyte protocols, and physician oversight, yes. The risk is real and we take it seriously. We’ve safely treated hundreds of clients without serious cardiac events. Done unsupervised? It’s dangerous. That’s why we exist.

Cardiac arrhythmia. Ibogaine prolongs the QT interval, which in rare cases can trigger Torsades de Pointes. Our entire screening and monitoring protocol is built around preventing and catching this.

A 12-lead EKG with QTc analysis, echocardiogram, comprehensive blood chemistry panel, liver function panel, electrolyte levels (magnesium, potassium, calcium), and additional tests based on your medical history.

Yes, most clients complete their EKG and bloodwork with their own physician or a local lab before traveling. Our clinical team will provide a precise list of required tests and the timing.

All required lab work must be submitted to the clinic prior to your arrival. Our clinical team will provide a complete list of required tests and the timeline.

Continuous real-time cardiac telemetry, automated QT analysis with alarms, ICU-trained nursing staff at bedside, IV access, physician checks every 2-4 hours, and immediate emergency response protocols.

Yes, IV magnesium sulfate on hand, electrical cardioversion capability, anti-seizure medications, benzodiazepine rescue meds, and a physician response time under 60 seconds.

In unsupervised, non-medical settings, fatal events occur in roughly 1 in 300 cases, almost always from undetected cardiac issues or drug interactions. With proper medical screening and monitoring like ours, the risk is dramatically lower.

Research (Stanford 2024) showed that co-administering magnesium significantly reduces the cardiac risks of ibogaine. We use this protocol.

Yes. We’ve turned away clients with structural heart disease, certain medications, or other risks. Saying no when needed is part of taking this seriously.

Medications & Contraindications

Absolutely contraindicated: SSRIs/SNRIs (Prozac, Zoloft, Lexapro, Effexor), MAOIs (Nardil, Parnate), tricyclic antidepressants, antipsychotics (Haldol, Risperdal), benzodiazepines (Xanax, Klonopin, Valium), stimulants (Adderall, Ritalin), anti-arrhythmic meds (amiodarone, sotalol, quinidine), and certain anti-nausea meds (Zofran).

Yes. SSRIs and SNRIs need to be tapered weeks before treatment to avoid serotonin syndrome, a potentially fatal interaction. Never stop on your own. Your medical team and prescribing doctor coordinate a taper schedule.

Varies by medication, but typically 4-6 weeks. Our medical team will design the exact taper timeline in coordination with your prescribing physician.

Long-acting opioids like Suboxone and methadone need to be transitioned to short-acting opioids (like morphine sulfate) for about 8 days before ibogaine. We handle this onsite in our Detox Program.

Yes, but it requires the longest transition. Methadone needs to come down to roughly 2mg or less of residual dose before treatment.

Usually yes, with adjustments. Your medical team reviews everything.

Yes, with close monitoring during the fasting protocol. Your medical team manages it.

Anyone with structural heart disease, recent heart attack/stroke, or arrhythmia history; significant liver or kidney disease; active psychosis or schizophrenia; severe bipolar Type I in active episode; pregnant or breastfeeding; uncontrolled high blood pressure; or some genetic conditions affecting QT interval.

Kratom acts on opioid receptors and needs to be tapered before treatment. Our medical team will give you a schedule.

Stop all cannabis at least 72 hours before treatment. Daily heavy users may need longer.

Application & Consultation

Three options: book a free 45-minute consultation at theibogainstitute.org, submit an application at theibogainstitute.org/client-application, or call 800-604-7294.

A 45-minute video or phone call. We listen to what’s going on, answer questions, and figure out if ibogaine is a fit. No pressure, sometimes we tell people it’s not the right tool for them.

Yes, completely free, no obligation.

If we’re a good fit and you want to move forward, you’ll formally apply and begin medical screening. Our care team will contact you with the next steps and timeline.

Once you decide to move forward, most clients are ready to travel within 4-6 weeks, that’s the time needed for labs, medication tapering, and travel arrangements.

No referral required, but we may coordinate with your doctor for medication tapering and labs.

Only if you tell them. We don’t contact anyone without your written consent.

Yes. Medical confidentiality and discretion are core to how we operate.

Pricing & Payment

Pricing varies by program length and which services you need. Our consultation team will give you a specific quote during your free call. Industry-wide, ibogaine treatment in Mexico generally runs from $6,800 on the low end to $12,000+ on the premium end, we’ll be transparent about exactly what’s included in your program.

Pre-screening review, medical care during stay, the ibogaine medication, 24/7 physician supervision, all meals, accommodations, therapeutic services (massage, breathwork, meditation), integration sessions, airport pickup, and aftercare follow-ups.

No. Every quote you get from us is written and itemized. If something’s extra, we’ll tell you up front.

Some HSA options and very limited FSA options may apply. Check with your provider to see what’s eligible.

Yes, we offer financing options through Intuit. Our team will walk you through the application during your consultation.

Credit card, ACH, bank wire, Venmo, PayPal, and most other major payment methods.

Yes. Half of the total program fee is due at booking to reserve your spot. The remaining half is due before you arrive at the clinic.

The full cancellation policy is detailed in our Service Agreement & Cancellation Form, which you will receive and sign as part of your enrollment paperwork. Please contact our team if you would like to review the terms in advance of committing.

Yes, if you are medically disqualified, you receive a 100% refund. This is exactly why we require all lab work to be submitted and reviewed before you arrive at the clinic. If a client arrives without their required labs and is then disqualified on-site, the full program fee is non-refundable, since that spot could have been filled by another client on our waitlist.

COZUMEL

Travel & Logistics

Cozumel International Airport (CZM). Direct flights from Houston, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta. You can also connect through Cancún (CUN), 30-minute flight.

What To Pack

5-7 days of loose, breathable clothing; walking shoes, sandals, swimsuit; sunglasses and hat; SPF 50+ sunscreen and insect repellent; all prescription meds in original containers; journal, books or e-reader, headphones; phone and charger (Type A/B plugs, 110V); reusable water bottle, eye mask; comfortable layers for treatment day.

Expensive jewelry or watches; work laptop (this is healing time); excessive cash or valuables; recreational substances of any kind; heavy or formal clothing.

Limited quantities of personal supplements are fine, but tell us what you’re taking so we can check for interactions. Large quantities can raise customs flags.

Bring everything in original containers with prescription labels. Declare them at customs.

PREPARATION

Before You Arrive

Two weeks before: cut back on caffeine, processed foods, sugar, and artificial additives. Eat more whole foods, vegetables, lean protein, healthy fats. Sleep 7-9 hours nightly. Drink ~2 liters of water daily. Light exercise (walking, yoga, light swimming).

Alcohol, recreational drugs (cocaine, MDMA, cannabis), non-prescribed benzodiazepines or opioids, and stimulants. Detox program clients follow a separate stabilization protocol.

Yes, on treatment day: 8-12 hours before no solid food, 4-6 hours before no liquids (small sips of water for essential meds only).

A full stomach increases nausea risk and can interfere with absorption. IV hydration is maintained throughout.

Yes, clients with clear intentions for what they want to work on tend to have more focused experiences. Our team will help you prepare. We’ve also built the Journey Journal app, a journaling and creative-expression tool made specifically for IWI clients. Use it to journal during your stay and to create artwork that captures your experience. If you choose to share your artwork with us, selected pieces are displayed on the walls of the clinic, a living tribute to those who’ve walked this path before you.

Up to you. Some clients tell family and friends; some keep it private. We respect either choice.

During Treatment / What To Expect

The acute experience lasts about 12 hours. Most people describe it as an “introspective dream-like state” where you revisit memories with unusual clarity and insight. With eyes closed, you’ll move through visions and reflections drawn from your own psyche.

Yes, you’re not unconscious. You’re in a deeply inward state, but aware. You can communicate with the medical team if needed.

Many clients see vivid internal visions, especially with eyes closed. Most describe them as meaningful and personal, not random or scary.

It can be intense. Some moments are uncomfortable, especially when difficult memories surface. But you’re never alone, and we use grounding techniques and rescue medications if needed.

About 24-36 hours of active monitoring. Day 1 starts with prep and the dose, the peak experience is hours 4-12, and the recovery phase continues into Day 2.

Not during the active experience. Sleep is often difficult for 24-48 hours afterward, this is normal and we manage it.

You may experience nausea, ataxia (unsteady coordination), and sensitivity to light/sound during the peak hours. These are managed.

The day after, many clients experience a low mood, fatigue, or emotional flatness. It typically lasts 24-72 hours and is part of the brain’s reset process. We support you through it.

For opioid clients: typically yes, within 24-36 hours. This is one of ibogaine’s most documented effects.

Our team is trained for this. We use grounding techniques, verbal support, and if needed, a benzodiazepine rescue medication. You’re safe.

Once dosed, ibogaine has to run its course, you can’t undo the dose. But every step before that is optional and consent-based.

After Treatment / Integration

24-48 hours of continued monitoring, processing sessions, journaling, rest, and group sharing. We don’t rush you out.

The work of taking your insights and translating them into new habits, relationships, and choices. Treatment opens the door, integration is walking through it.

The 90 days after treatment are a window of heightened neuroplasticity, your brain is biologically primed to form new patterns. What you do in those 90 days largely determines whether the changes stick.

A personalized integration plan before you leave; check-in calls at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months; access to integration therapists; peer support group connections; and booster treatment options if needed.

Our Clinical Director and dedicated integration coaches lead the aftercare side, with access to outside integration therapists as needed.

Honest answer: about half of addiction clients relapse at some point without strong aftercare. With structured aftercare, the numbers are dramatically better, 70-80% sustained abstinence at 6 months in published studies. Doing the work after treatment is critical.

No alcohol for at least 30 days post-treatment. Longer for some conditions. We’ll give you specific guidelines.

We strongly recommend at least 30 days off to protect the neuroplastic window. Beyond that point, it’s a personal decision and outside the scope of our care.

Possibly, but only after discussion with both your medical team and ours. Many clients find they no longer need it.

Light walking is fine within days. Heavy exercise, wait 2-4 weeks depending on your condition and recovery.

Some clients do, especially for severe addiction or specific neurological conditions. We’ll know more after watching how you respond.

A follow-up ibogaine treatment, usually at a lower dose, designed to extend or deepen the results. Many clients schedule one 6-12 months out.

Family, Companions & Support

Yes. Companions are welcome in Cozumel for emotional support. They book their own lodging at nearby hotels, our facility is dedicated exclusively to client care.

We can recommend hotels and vacation rentals within 10-15 minutes of our facility.

Visitation is coordinated with your medical team and based on your treatment phase. We design it around what supports your healing.

Yes, we coordinate updates with whoever you authorize. WhatsApp and phone work well over WiFi.

Yes, with your written consent. Many families ask us questions before sending their loved one.

Veterans, First Responders & Athletes

Yes, veterans, especially those with PTSD and TBI, are a major part of our client population. Stanford’s groundbreaking study on ibogaine for Special Operations veterans showed dramatic improvements.

Combat-related PTSD, traumatic brain injury from blast exposure, moral injury, and the chronic depression and anxiety that often follow. Many veterans come to us after years of medications and traditional therapy that didn’t fully reach what was going on underneath.

Not currently, ibogaine isn’t FDA approved, so the VA can’t fund it directly. Organizations like VETS Inc. provide scholarships specifically for vets.

Yes, police, fire, EMS, and dispatchers. Trauma is trauma, and we know this population.

Yes, football players, MMA fighters, hockey players, soccer players. This client population sits close to home for us. The lived understanding inside our team shapes how seriously we take this work, from intake through aftercare.

Legal Status

In the United States, ibogaine is currently Schedule I, meaning it’s illegal for general use. In Mexico, it’s legal in medically supervised settings, which is why our clinic is there.

You’re not bringing ibogaine home. The medicine is administered in our clinic in Mexico. Once it’s processed by your body, you’re not carrying anything illegal.

Not yet. The April 2026 executive order directs the FDA and DEA to accelerate research and create a pathway for access under Right to Try, but ibogaine remains Schedule I until rescheduled. The order is a major signal but not legalization.

Colorado is currently holding hearings on regulated psychedelic access, including ibogaine. IWI is engaged in that process. Stay tuned.

The direction is positive. The executive order plus active state hearings plus Stanford-level research all point toward eventual rescheduling, but it’ll take years.

Comparisons & Alternatives

Suboxone replaces one opioid with another, you’re still dependent. Ibogaine interrupts dependence and resets the underlying brain chemistry. Different tool, different outcome.

Methadone is daily maintenance, you have to keep taking it. Ibogaine is one treatment that aims to free you from dependence entirely.

Many of our clients have. Most ibogaine candidates come to us after multiple rounds of conventional treatment didn’t stick. We’re often the option when other options haven’t worked.

Ketamine is shorter-acting, more accessible, and less risky, but also less powerful for severe addiction. Ibogaine is bigger medicine for bigger problems.

Different mechanisms. Psilocybin is excellent for depression and end-of-life anxiety. Ibogaine has the unique ability to interrupt physical addiction. Some clients eventually do both.

Ayahuasca is a beautiful tool for emotional processing and spiritual work, but it doesn’t reset the brain the way ibogaine does. It’s also not a withdrawal interrupter.

Common Concerns & Misconceptions

No. The mechanism is biological, measurable changes in EEG, MRI, and neurotransmitter activity. Stanford’s research documented effect sizes (Cohen’s d ≥ 2.18 at 12 months) far beyond placebo levels.

We’re a medical clinic, not a religious one. Many clients describe the experience as spiritual, but you don’t need any belief system to benefit. Your experience is yours.

That’s normal. The ibogaine experience is very different from recreational psychedelics, slower, more inward, more meaningful for most people. We’ll talk through it with you.

Difficult moments happen, those are often where the most healing comes from. Our team is trained to support you through challenging passages, and we have rescue medications available.

Many clients report feeling like a clearer, calmer version of themselves. Family and friends often describe positive changes within weeks.

Rare with a flood dose. If it happens, we re-evaluate dosing and mechanism. Some clients are slow metabolizers and need adjustments.

No. Ibogaine doesn’t remove who you are, many clients say it helps them become more themselves.

No. Ibogaine is not addictive and has no recreational use. It’s the opposite of what an addictive substance does.

Both. Ibogaine does heavy lifting your brain couldn’t do on its own. You still have to walk into the new life it opens up.

Life Inside The Clinic

Three meals daily, prepared on-site by our in-house private chef using fresh, organic, locally sourced ingredients. Gluten-free, anti-inflammatory cuisine. Caffeine-free herbal teas, electrolyte hydration drinks with BCAAs, and daily supplements.

Yes, please let our team know in advance.

Private bedrooms with sound machines, fans, heaters, room dividers, premium linens, blackout masks, and recovery items.

Yes. Tranquil garden setting, swimming pool, lush tropical gardens, designed for rest.

Some, depending on your program and treatment phase. Some programs include limited free time for beach walks or relaxation. But healing comes first, this isn’t a vacation.

Outings are coordinated with the medical team based on your treatment phase. We don’t lock anyone in, but for safety reasons, we plan time out together.

Massage, reiki, guided meditation, mindful movement, breathwork, built into your daily schedule.

Yes, in small groups. Many clients find peer connection healing; it’s part of the model.

We strongly discourage it. Your job here is healing, not work email.

Yes, private bedrooms, private time, and respect for your space.

Straight Talk / Harder Questions

For addiction: published studies of well-run ibogaine programs paired with strong aftercare show 70-80% sustained abstinence at 6 months, with 30% of clients reporting permanent cessation. For PTSD: Stanford data shows 84% sustained remission at 12 months. We track outcomes and stay honest about results.

Our team has safely administered more than 3,000 ibogaine treatments without a single cardiac event. That record is the direct result of rigorous pre-treatment screening, continuous medical monitoring, and physician oversight at every stage of care.

Most “worst” moments are emotional, clients confronting things they’ve avoided for years. Physically, the most common rough patches are nausea during treatment and a “grey day” after. Cardiac events are rare due to our screening, but it’s the reason we screen so hard.

History: it got swept into Schedule I in 1967 alongside other psychedelics during the war on drugs, before any of its medical uses were studied. The science has caught up. The law is catching up now.

Yes, there are clinics across Mexico. The differences come down to medical rigor, staff experience, and aftercare. We’d rather you do your homework on any clinic, including ours.

Three things: deep medical infrastructure (real EKG monitoring, ICU-trained nurses, and on-site physicians, not just guides); a dedicated integration program built in from day one, not bolted on as an afterthought; and the depth of experience our team brings to every client. We built IWI because we live this work.

We don’t guarantee outcomes, anyone who does is lying. What we guarantee is medical rigor, honest assessment, and that we’ll never take a client we don’t believe we can help.

Yes, we can connect you with clients who’ve agreed to share their experience. Many of our clients are open about their journey.

We’ll talk through what we saw and recommend next steps. Sometimes that’s a booster session. Sometimes it’s a different modality. We don’t disappear after treatment.

Call us. We’d rather have an honest conversation than have you not show up. Cold feet are normal.

Treatment Options & Protocols

We offer three distinct programs, each designed for a specific healing goal. The Medical Conditions Program (5–21 days, starting at $5,500 USD) targets neurological repair for conditions like Parkinson’s, MS, brain injury, fibromyalgia, and chronic pain. The Mental Health Program (7–14 days, starting at $7,500 USD) addresses trauma, treatment-resistant depression, and anxiety through deep neuroplastic healing. The Detoxification Program (7 days, starting at $7,500 USD) eliminates substance dependency by interrupting withdrawal and cravings at the neurological level. Every program is personalized, there is no one-size protocol.

Programs begin at $5,500 USD for the Medical Conditions Program and $7,500 USD for the Mental Health and Detoxification Programs. Pricing reflects the intensity of medical oversight, program length, and the comprehensive support provided before, during, and after treatment. We are transparent about costs from the first conversation.

Your program includes accommodation at our Cozumel facility (Sankofa Retreat), all medical screening and monitoring, the ibogaine treatment itself, 24/7 nursing and physician care, meals, private transportation to and from the facility, integration coaching sessions, and post-treatment support resources. You arrive ready to heal. We handle everything else.

Treatment takes place at our flagship facility in Cozumel, Mexico, the Sankofa Retreat. Mexico is a legal jurisdiction for ibogaine administration. Our Cozumel location blends advanced ibogaine therapy with Caribbean tranquility. Comfortable healing suites, island setting, and peaceful surroundings create the ideal environment for transformation. The exact facility address is kept confidential to protect patient privacy; private drivers escort you from your arrival point.

Ibogaine is currently classified as a Schedule I substance in the United States, making it federally illegal despite overwhelming clinical evidence of its therapeutic value. Mexico operates under different regulatory frameworks, allowing us to provide this life-changing treatment legally, safely, and to the medical standard it deserves. As a US-based institute, we provide all American consumer protections and legal safeguards while delivering care where ibogaine is unscheduled.

The full journey, from your initial inquiry through post-treatment integration, spans several weeks. After submitting your application and completing medical intake, most patients arrive at our facility within 2–4 weeks. The residential program itself runs 7–21 days depending on your program. Post-treatment integration support continues for weeks and months following your return home.

Absolutely. Your privacy is protected at every stage. Facility locations remain confidential. Your medical records and treatment history are handled with the strictest clinical privacy standards. Many of our patients are professionals, veterans, first responders, and public figures, we understand what confidentiality means to you and we take it seriously.

Medical Oversight & Safety Standards

Ibogaine affects cardiac electrical activity, specifically QT interval prolongation, which can trigger dangerous arrhythmias when administered without proper protocols. This is why ibogaine administered without medical supervision is extraordinarily dangerous, and why our protocols are so rigorous. With comprehensive cardiac screening, continuous EKG monitoring, electrolyte optimization, and ICU-trained staff present throughout, the risk profile is dramatically reduced. Our team has supervised thousands of ibogaine sessions. Safety is not a checklist, it is a covenant.
Ibogaine is administered orally in carefully calculated doses based on your body weight, medical profile, and therapeutic goals. The experience typically lasts 24–36 hours. You’ll be in a comfortable, monitored environment throughout, eyes closed, navigating an internal landscape of memories, insights, and neurological reset. Our medical team is physically present, monitoring your cardiac rhythm and vital signs continuously.
Our Cozumel facility (Sankofa Retreat) is designed as a sanctuary for transformation. Comfortable healing suites, peaceful island surroundings, pool, and thoughtfully designed communal and private spaces create an atmosphere where healing feels supported rather than clinical. World-class medical care meets island serenity. You are not in a hospital. You are in a place designed for profound human change.
The ibogaine experience can be psychologically intense, this is part of its therapeutic power. Material that has been buried for years or decades surfaces for processing. Our team is trained to support you through every dimension of the experience. Medically, our staff is equipped and prepared for any complication. Psychologically, your integration team is present to help you contextualize and work through what arises. You are not alone at any moment.

Health Screening & Eligibility

Before treatment, every patient completes a comprehensive pre-screening that includes: a 12-lead EKG, echocardiogram (cardiac ultrasound), complete blood panel (CBC, metabolic panel, liver function, thyroid), and a full medication and supplement review. These tests must be completed within a specified window before arrival. Our clinical team reviews all results and may request additional testing based on your individual profile. This process protects you and ensures ibogaine is both safe and optimally effective for you.

Many medications require tapering or discontinuation before ibogaine treatment due to interaction risks, particularly medications that affect cardiac rhythm, serotonin levels, or liver metabolism. Our clinical team reviews your full medication list during intake and provides specific guidance for each patient. This process typically begins 2–4 weeks before your arrival date. Do not discontinue any medication without medical guidance.

Yes. Alcohol must be discontinued before treatment, your clinical team will provide specific timelines based on your history. Active alcohol consumption immediately before ibogaine treatment creates serious safety risks. If alcohol dependency is severe, we will guide you through a safe preparation protocol. Our Detoxification Program is specifically designed for individuals with substance dependency, including alcohol.

Suboxone (buprenorphine) and methadone both require a transition protocol before ibogaine treatment. These medications occupy opioid receptors in ways that interact significantly with ibogaine. The timeline and protocol for transitioning off MAT medications varies by individual and requires careful medical management. This is one of the most important aspects of pre-treatment preparation for opioid-dependent patients, our team has extensive experience guiding this process safely.

Yes. Our Medical Conditions Program specifically addresses complex neurological conditions including Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, and post-concussion syndrome. Ibogaine’s ability to promote neurogenesis, reduce neuroinflammation, and support repair of damaged neural pathways makes it uniquely suited for conditions that conventional neurology considers poorly treatable. Contact our clinical team to discuss your specific situation.

Getting Ready & Arrival Details

The process begins with submitting an application at theibogainstitute.org. Our team reviews your intake and contacts you, typically within 1–2 business days, to discuss your situation, answer questions, and determine program fit. If approved, you’ll receive your medical screening requirements and a program timeline. Once medical clearance is confirmed, your arrival date is scheduled. Private transportation from the Cozumel airport to our facility is arranged by our team.

Preparation is essential and begins weeks before arrival. Key preparation elements include: completing all required medical tests, following medication tapering protocols under our guidance, dietary adjustments (specific guidelines are provided), physical preparation (rest, hydration, reducing stimulants), and psychological preparation, setting clear intentions and beginning to reflect on what you hope to heal. Your integration team will guide you through a structured pre-treatment preparation process.

We provide a detailed packing list upon enrollment. In general: comfortable, loose-fitting clothing, personal items that bring comfort (journal, meaningful objects), any approved medications, comfortable shoes for gentle walks. Leave behind: heavy electronics, alcohol, recreational substances, and anything that might distract from the healing environment. Light, intentional packing reflects the spirit of the process.

You fly into Cozumel International Airport (CZM). Our team arranges private transportation directly from the airport to our facility. The facility address is kept confidential until your arrival is confirmed, this is a privacy protection for all patients. You will receive complete arrival instructions well in advance. Many patients fly from major US cities with direct or one-connection routes to Cozumel.

We understand the desire for support during a significant healing journey. Companion arrangements are evaluated case by case, please discuss this with our intake team during your consultation. In most cases, companions are welcomed for the travel and can be accommodated nearby, with structured opportunities for connection between treatment sessions. The treatment itself requires solitude and internal focus.

Post-Treatment Support & Integration

The ibogaine experience creates a window of neuroplastic openness, what you do with that window matters enormously. Immediately following treatment, you remain at our facility for observation, rest, and initial integration sessions. Before departure, your integration team establishes a post-treatment care plan. This includes scheduled integration coaching calls, peer community access, and clinical support resources to help you sustain the transformation.

Yes. Our comprehensive aftercare program includes personalized integration coaching, ongoing clinical support, peer community access, and curated resources to help you navigate lasting change. Healing doesn’t end when you board your flight home. The weeks and months following treatment are a critical period for consolidating neurological change into new life patterns. We are committed to accompanying you through that process.

This is highly individual. Many patients report sustained effects, improved mood, reduced cravings, mental clarity, emotional resilience, for months to years following a single treatment. The neuroplastic changes ibogaine catalyzes create structural brain changes, not just temporary chemical shifts. That said, what you do after treatment significantly influences duration. Integration practices, lifestyle choices, and support structures all contribute to sustaining transformation. Our aftercare program exists precisely to support this.

Yes. Some individuals benefit from more than one ibogaine treatment, particularly for complex or layered conditions. Each subsequent treatment is evaluated clinically and requires the same rigorous screening as the first. Many of our long-term community members have undergone multiple treatment courses as part of an ongoing commitment to neurological health and personal transformation. This is always a clinical decision made in partnership with our medical team.

We welcome your questions, no matter how specific, sensitive, or unconventional. Call us at 800-604-7294. Your call will be received by our clinical team, not a call center. Every conversation is confidential. We know the decision to pursue ibogaine therapy is significant, and we are honored to help you navigate it thoughtfully.

Neurological Conditions & Chronic Pain

Repair Mechanisms Medicine Considers Impossible

Conventional neurology treats most conditions as irreversible—managing symptoms while accepting inevitable decline. Ibogaine challenges that assumption by stimulating neurological repair processes that modern medicine barely understands.

Parkinson's Disease

Multiple clinical studies document significant tremor reduction following ibogaine treatment. Patients report improved motor control, reduced rigidity, better sleep, and cognitive clarity. The mechanism involves GDNF (glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor) production—a protein that protects dopamine neurons and may slow disease progression.

Multiple Sclerosis

MS patients report reduced inflammation, improved mobility, decreased fatigue, and symptom stabilization. While not a cure, ibogaine appears to interrupt the neuroinflammatory cascade driving MS progression and potentially support remyelination.

Traumatic Brain Injury & Post-Concussion Syndrome

Veterans with blast exposure, athletes with multiple concussions, accident survivors with persistent TBI symptoms—patients given no hope for improvement beyond “wait and see”—experience headache reduction, cognitive fog lifting, mood stabilization, and functional recovery.

Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)

While CTE can only be definitively diagnosed post-mortem, patients with suspected CTE (multiple concussions, progressive symptoms, cognitive decline) report symptom improvement and slowed deterioration following ibogaine therapy.

Neuropathic Pain

Pain from nerve damage that opioids can’t touch without creating dependency. Fibromyalgia. Complex regional pain syndrome. Chronic pain driving addiction. Ibogaine’s NMDA receptor antagonism interrupts pain signaling at the source—offering relief that conventional treatments cannot provide.

The Neuroplasticity Factor

Medical training teaches that neurological damage is permanent. Ibogaine contradicts that dogma. The evidence base is growing but still limited by ibogaine’s legal status preventing large-scale trials. Clinical outcomes documented by providers like us consistently show improvement that shouldn’t be possible according to conventional neurology.

Treatment-Resistant Mental Health & Trauma

Accessing What Therapy Cannot Reach

Traditional mental health treatment works for many people. For those it doesn’t help—patients who’ve tried multiple medications, years of therapy, and every recommended approach without relief—ibogaine offers a different path.

PTSD & Combat Trauma

Clinical trials show 60-88% reduction in PTSD symptoms following ibogaine therapy. Veterans with treatment-resistant combat trauma, first responders with cumulative stress, survivors of assault or abuse—patients who’ve exhausted VA resources and traditional trauma therapy report breakthrough that seemed impossible.

Treatment-Resistant Depression

When SSRIs, SNRIs, tricyclics, MAOIs, ketamine, and ECT haven’t worked—when years of therapy produce no improvement—ibogaine’s neurotransmitter reset creates changes that conventional antidepressants cannot achieve. Patients describe lifting of depression that’s persisted for decades.

Anxiety Rooted in Trauma

Surface-level anxiety management (breathing exercises, cognitive reframing, medication) doesn’t address trauma-based anxiety. Ibogaine allows patients to process the traumatic material driving their anxiety—material that conscious therapy often cannot access.

Complex Grief

Loss that therapy can’t resolve. Grief that’s become pathological. Mourning that’s stolen years of life. Ibogaine facilitates emotional processing that talk therapy reaches only intellectually—allowing patients to actually feel, process, and begin releasing what they’ve carried.

Why It Works Differently

Ibogaine creates a unique psychological state where deeply buried memories, traumas, and patterns surface for processing. It’s not talk therapy—it’s direct access to subconscious material, allowing patients to confront and process what’s been driving symptoms for years or decades.

What Patients Report

Clarity about trauma origins. Emotional release that feels complete rather than temporary. Reduced hypervigilance. Improved sleep. Ability to connect with others. Freedom from symptoms that defined their existence.

Addiction & Substance Dependency

Neurological Interruption, Not Maintenance

Ibogaine fundamentally differs from traditional addiction treatment. Instead of substituting one substance for another or requiring lifelong management, ibogaine interrupts dependency at the neurological level—resetting brain chemistry and eliminating the physical chains of addiction.

Opioid Addiction

Patients dependent on heroin, fentanyl, prescription painkillers, methadone, or Suboxone experience withdrawal elimination within 24-36 hours of ibogaine administration. Physical cravings are dramatically reduced or completely absent. This isn’t suppression—it’s neurological reset.

Alcohol Dependency

Clinical data shows 70-80% reduction in alcohol cravings following ibogaine treatment. Patients who’ve failed multiple rehabs, experienced dangerous withdrawal attempts, or struggled with decades of dependency report freedom they never thought possible.

Stimulant Addiction

Cocaine, methamphetamine, and prescription stimulant (Adderall, Ritalin) dependencies respond to ibogaine’s dopamine system reset. The compulsive drive that traditional therapy can’t touch is interrupted at its neurological source.

Polysubstance Use

Many patients aren’t addicted to a single substance—they’re managing multiple dependencies simultaneously. Ibogaine addresses the underlying neurological patterns driving all substance use, not just one drug at a time.

Why Traditional Treatment Fails

Methadone and Suboxone are opioids—they maintain dependency while managing symptoms. Rehab addresses behavioral patterns but not neurological addiction. Willpower fails because addiction isn’t a character flaw—it’s brain chemistry. Ibogaine changes that chemistry.

What Research Shows

Studies consistently demonstrate ibogaine’s ability to eliminate withdrawal symptoms, reduce cravings for extended periods (months to years), and create the neurological space necessary for sustained recovery. Success rates far exceed traditional treatment modalities.

Who Should Not Use Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Important Safety Information

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is generally safe when properly administered, but certain medical conditions create serious risks and disqualify patients from treatment. The following contraindications must be carefully evaluated:

Untreated Pneumothorax (Collapsed Lung)

The single most critical contraindication. Pressure changes in the hyperbaric chamber can worsen a pneumothorax, potentially causing life-threatening tension pneumothorax. Even resolved pneumothorax requires careful evaluation—history of spontaneous pneumothorax significantly increases risk of recurrence under pressure.

Certain Chemotherapy Drugs

Bleomycin, Doxorubicin (Adriamycin), Cisplatin, and Disulfiram (Antabuse) create dangerous interactions with hyperbaric oxygen. These medications must be discontinued with adequate clearance periods before HBOT. Patients currently undergoing chemotherapy with these agents cannot receive hyperbaric therapy.

Severe COPD or Emphysema

Advanced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with CO2 retention or air trapping creates pulmonary complication risks. Patients may be unable to tolerate oxygen toxicity prevention protocols (air breaks). Each case requires individual pulmonologist evaluation.

Uncontrolled High Fever

Fever above 101°F increases metabolic rate and oxygen consumption, raising seizure risk from oxygen toxicity. Treatment must be postponed until fever resolves and underlying infection is addressed.

Uncontrolled Seizure Disorders

High-pressure oxygen can lower seizure threshold in susceptible individuals. Well-controlled epilepsy on stable medication may be acceptable, but uncontrolled seizures or recent seizure activity requires neurologist clearance.

Upper Respiratory Infections

Active sinus infections, severe congestion, or ear infections prevent safe pressure equalization. Treatment postponed until infection clears. Inability to equalize ear pressure creates barotrauma risk (ruptured eardrum, severe pain).

Recent Ear Surgery or Eustachian Tube Dysfunction

Surgical ear procedures within 3-6 months, perforated eardrum, or inability to equalize pressure safely creates barotrauma risk. ENT evaluation required before HBOT approval.

Severe Claustrophobia or Panic Disorder

While our chambers are spacious and clear, some patients cannot tolerate enclosed spaces under any circumstances. Severe anxiety during sessions compromises safety and prevents pressure equalization. Mild anxiety often manageable with preparation and support.

Pregnancy Status: Exercise Caution

HBOT effects on fetal development aren’t fully understood. While not absolutely contraindicated, treatment during pregnancy requires:

  • Compelling medical necessity (life/limb threatening condition)
  • Informed consent acknowledging unknown fetal risks
  • OB/GYN consultation and approval
  • Benefits clearly outweighing theoretical risks

Most elective HBOT (TBI recovery, PTSD, addiction support) should be postponed until after pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Medications Requiring Adjustment or Discontinuation

Steroids (Prednisone, Dexamethasone):
May impair wound healing that HBOT aims to enhance. Doesn’t prohibit treatment but may reduce effectiveness.

Diabetes Medications:
HBOT can lower blood sugar. Diabetic patients require careful glucose monitoring and possible insulin/medication adjustments during treatment course.

Blood Pressure Medications:

Hyperbaric oxygen can affect blood pressure. Antihypertensive medications may need adjustment.

Recent Heart Attack (within 3 months):
Cardiovascular system needs stabilization before additional physiological stress from hyperbaric treatment.

Uncontrolled Congestive Heart Failure:
Fluid status must be optimized. Severe CHF creates pulmonary edema risk under hyperbaric conditions.

Pacemakers/Implanted Devices:
Not contraindicated but require verification that devices are pressure-rated and MRI-compatible (some monitoring equipment uses magnets).

Cataracts:
HBOT can accelerate cataract progression in susceptible individuals. Not a contraindication but patients should be informed. Cataract surgery may be needed sooner.

History of Optic Neuritis:
Increased risk of vision changes. Ophthalmology consultation recommended before starting HBOT.

Recent Eye Surgery:
Intraocular pressure changes during compression/decompression. Wait 6-8 weeks post-surgery before HBOT.

Children:
HBOT is safe for pediatric patients but requires age-appropriate chamber (multiplace with parent present) and ability to cooperate with ear equalization instructions.

Elderly Patients:
Age alone is not a contraindication. However, comorbid conditions common in elderly (COPD, heart disease, sensory deficits) require careful screening.

Patients with Implants:
Most implants (joint replacements, surgical hardware, dental work) are safe. Certain older devices or experimental implants require manufacturer verification of pressure tolerance.

Even without contraindications, all patients should understand potential side effects:

Barotrauma (Middle Ear/Sinus)

Most common complication. Caused by inability to equalize pressure. Ranges from mild discomfort to ruptured eardrum. Prevented through proper equalization techniques taught before treatment.

Temporary Vision Changes

Reversible myopia (nearsightedness) affects 20% of patients after 20+ treatments. Vision returns to baseline 6-8 weeks after HBOT ends.

Oxygen Toxicity

Rare when air breaks are properly administered. Symptoms: muscle twitching, nausea, dizziness, seizures (extremely rare). Prevented through treatment protocol design.

Pulmonary Oxygen Toxicity

Very rare with standard protocols (60-90 minute sessions). Would require many hours of continuous oxygen exposure.

Fatigue

Common. Many patients feel tired after sessions—body is working hard to heal. Usually improves as treatment course progresses.

Before any patient begins HBOT, our physicians conduct:

  • Complete medical and surgical history review
  • Pulmonary function assessment
  • Cardiovascular evaluation
  • Ear, nose, throat examination
  • Medication review for interactions
  • Informed consent discussion of all risks
  • Ear equalization training and practice

We err on the side of extreme caution. If there’s any question about safety, we decline to provide therapy until concerns are resolved.

When in Doubt, We Say No

Your safety matters more than providing a requested service. If our medical team determines HBOT presents unacceptable risk—even if you’ve traveled for ibogaine treatment—we won’t proceed with hyperbaric therapy.

This isn’t about excluding people. It’s about protecting lives.

Who Should Not Use 5-MeO-DMT

Important Safety Information

5-MeO-DMT is a powerful entheogenic medicine that is not safe or appropriate for everyone. The following conditions create serious risks and disqualify patients from this therapy:

ACTIVE PSYCHOSIS OR SCHIZOPHRENIA

Current psychotic symptoms or diagnosed schizophrenia spectrum disorders create extreme risk of psychological destabilization, prolonged psychotic episodes, or permanent worsening of condition. Even if currently stable on medication, the intensity of 5-MeO-DMT can trigger acute psychotic breaks.

SEVERE BIPOLAR DISORDER (TYPE I)

Particularly during manic or mixed episodes. 5-MeO-DMT can trigger manic episodes, destabilize mood regulation, or cause rapid cycling that’s difficult to manage medically.

SEVERE DISSOCIATIVE DISORDERS

Conditions like Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) or severe depersonalization/derealization disorder may be dangerously exacerbated by ego-dissolving experiences.

ACTIVE SUICIDAL IDEATION WITH INTENT

While we treat depression and suicidal thinking with ibogaine, active intent to self-harm combined with 5-MeO-DMT’s intensity creates unacceptable risk during the vulnerable post-experience period.

UNCONTROLLED HYPERTENSION

5-MeO-DMT can temporarily elevate blood pressure and heart rate. Uncontrolled high blood pressure (systolic >160, diastolic >100) creates stroke or cardiac event risk.

RECENT HEART ATTACK OR STROKE

Within 6 months. Cardiovascular system needs complete stabilization before additional stress from powerful medicines.

SEVERE CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIAS

Irregular heart rhythms that aren’t medically controlled create risk of dangerous cardiac events during the intense physiological response to 5-MeO-DMT.

ADVANCED HEART FAILURE

Compromised cardiac function cannot safely handle the temporary cardiovascular stress of the experience.

MAOIs (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors)

Dangerous interaction. Must be discontinued with physician guidance well before 5-MeO-DMT.

SSRIs/SNRIs (Antidepressants)

Can create dangerous serotonin syndrome when combined with 5-MeO-DMT. Requires tapering and clearance period.

Lithium

Severe interaction risk. Creates potential for seizures and extreme psychological reactions.

Certain Blood Pressure Medications

Some interact dangerously. Full medication review required.

Pregnancy or Breastfeeding

Unknown risks to fetal development and infant exposure through breast milk. Absolutely contraindicated.

Severe Liver or Kidney Disease

Compromised organ function affects medicine metabolism and increases complication risk.

Seizure Disorders (Uncontrolled)

5-MeO-DMT can lower seizure threshold in susceptible individuals.

Recent Ibogaine Treatment Without Clearance

Must be medically stable and cleared by physicians. Timing matters for safety.

Even if medically cleared, 5-MeO-DMT may not be appropriate if you:

Fear Losing Control

Ego dissolution means complete surrender. If the concept terrifies rather than intrigues you, this isn’t the right medicine.

Expect Recreational Experience

This is profound therapeutic work, not entertainment. Wrong expectations create difficult experiences.

Have Unrealistic Expectations

5-MeO-DMT is not a magic cure. It’s a tool for deep work that requires integration and effort.

Lack Integration Support

The experience demands processing. Without willingness to do integration work, benefits are lost.

Before any patient is approved for 5-MeO-DMT therapy, our physicians conduct:

  • Complete medical history review
  • Psychiatric evaluation
  • Medication interaction assessment
  • Cardiovascular screening
  • Psychological readiness evaluation
  • Informed consent discussion of all risks

We err on the side of caution. If there’s any question about safety, we decline to provide this therapy.

When in Doubt, We Say No

Your safety matters more than providing a requested service. If our medical team determines 5-MeO-DMT isn’t appropriate for you—even if you’ve traveled for ibogaine treatment—we won’t proceed.

This isn’t about excluding people. It’s about protecting lives.

Intention: Purpose-Built for Transformation

These spaces aren’t repurposed hotels or converted vacation rentals. Every element—from room layout to lighting design to garden placement—was conceived specifically for ibogaine therapy and the healing work it facilitates. The treatment suites balance medical functionality with psychological comfort. The outdoor spaces invite contemplation without overstimulation. The common areas allow connection when wanted and solitude when needed. Nothing here is accidental. Every detail reflects our commitment to your healing above all other considerations.

Comfort: Nervous System Regulation

Your autonomic nervous system must downregulate for healing to occur. Chronic stress, uncomfortable surroundings, and sensory overwhelm keep you in fight-or-flight mode—the opposite of the parasympathetic state needed for neurological repair. Beautiful natural surroundings, quality bedding, temperature control, peaceful gardens, nourishing food, comfortable furnishings—these aren’t luxuries, they’re therapeutic necessities. When your environment supports regulation, your body can allocate resources to healing instead of coping with environmental stressors.

Privacy: Freedom to Go Deep

Deep psychological work requires freedom from judgment, observation, and the performance of normalcy. Our facilities protect your confidentiality absolutely—gated access, discrete locations, staff trained in privacy protocols, and separate accommodations for high-profile patients. This isn’t just about avoiding publicity; it’s about creating sacred space where you can be completely vulnerable without fear of exposure. Transformation happens when masks come off. Privacy makes that possible.

Safety: The Foundation of Everything

You cannot heal if you don’t feel safe. Fear activates survival mechanisms that shut down the very neurological processes ibogaine is trying to reset. Our medical infrastructure—ICU-level monitoring equipment, emergency response systems, experienced physicians on-site 24/7—creates the physical safety that allows your nervous system to trust the process. Proven protocols refined over 3,000+ treatments mean we’ve encountered virtually every scenario and know how to respond. When your body knows it’s protected, it can focus energy on healing rather than vigilance.

Our Treatment Protocols

Medical Excellence in Ibogaine Therapy

Our protocols represent decades of clinical experience, peer-reviewed research, and an unwavering commitment to patient safety. Here’s what sets our approach apart:

NO TWO PATIENTS ARE IDENTICAL

We don’t use one-size-fits-all dosing. Your ibogaine protocol is calculated based on:

  • Your specific condition (addiction, PTSD, Parkinson’s, etc.)
  • Body weight and metabolism
  • Cardiac function and QT interval baseline
  • Liver function capacity
  • Current medications and health status
  • Treatment goals and severity

DOSING APPROACHES INCLUDE

  • Flood dose protocol: Full therapeutic dose for addiction and deep psychological work
  • Low-dose protocol: Gentler approach for medical conditions or older patients
  • Microdosing regimen: Extended treatment for neurological repair
  • Booster protocols: Follow-up sessions for sustained results

Your physician determines the optimal approach during pre-treatment assessment.

WHY HEART MONITORING IS CRITICAL

Ibogaine temporarily affects cardiac electrical activity, specifically the QT interval—the time it takes your heart to recharge between beats. Prolonged QT intervals can lead to dangerous arrhythmias.

OUR CARDIAC SAFETY PROTOCOL

Pre-treatment:

  • Baseline 12-lead EKG to establish your normal QT interval
  • Echocardiogram if cardiac history warrants
  • Electrolyte optimization (magnesium, potassium, calcium)
  • Physician review of all cardiac risk factors

During treatment:

  • Continuous real-time cardiac monitoring
  • Automated QT interval analysis with alarms
  • ICU-trained nursing staff observing rhythm constantly
  • Physician check-ins every 2-4 hours
  • Emergency equipment immediately accessible

Post-treatment:

  • 12-lead EKG within 24 hours
  • Continued monitoring until QT normalizes
  • Electrolyte panel to confirm balance

Result: We’ve safely treated hundreds of patients without serious cardiac events because we monitor obsessively and respond immediately to any changes.

THE FOUNDATION OF CARDIAC SAFETY

Proper electrolyte balance is critical for preventing cardiac complications during ibogaine treatment. Imbalances—especially low magnesium or potassium—increase risk of dangerous heart rhythms.

OUR ELECTROLYTE PROTOCOL

48 hours before treatment:

  • Comprehensive blood chemistry panel
  • IV supplementation begins if levels are suboptimal
  • Repeat testing to confirm optimization

Immediately before treatment:

  • Final electrolyte verification
  • Additional IV supplementation as needed
  • Magnesium bolus (proven protective for QT prolongation)

During treatment:

  • Continuous IV electrolyte support
  • Monitoring for signs of imbalance
  • Real-time adjustments based on cardiac rhythm

Post-treatment:

  • Repeat chemistry panel within 24 hours
  • Continued supplementation until fully stabilized

Why this matters: Research spanning 30+ years confirms that proper electrolyte management is the single most important factor in preventing cardiac complications during ibogaine therapy.

WHAT YOU CANNOT TAKE WITH IBOGAINE

Certain medications create dangerous interactions with ibogaine. We require discontinuation or tapering before treatment:

Absolutely contraindicated:

  • SSRIs/SNRIs (Prozac, Zoloft, Lexapro, Effexor, etc.) – Must taper weeks before
  • MAOIs (Nardil, Parnate) – Dangerous serotonin syndrome risk
  • Tricyclic antidepressants – Cardiac risk
  • Antipsychotics (Haldol, Risperdal, etc.) – Neurological complications
  • Benzodiazepines (Xanax, Klonopin, Valium) – Requires slow taper
  • Stimulants (Adderall, Ritalin, cocaine, meth) – Cardiac and seizure risk

Managed carefully:

  • Opioids – Detoxification program patients are stabilized onsite
  • Blood pressure medications – May require adjustment
  • Diabetes medications – Monitored closely during fasting

Our medical team provides detailed tapering schedules and coordinates with your current providers when necessary. Never discontinue medications without our guidance.

WHY YOU FAST BEFORE TREATMENT

Ibogaine can cause nausea and vomiting, especially during the first few hours. Fasting reduces this risk and improves absorption.

TYPICAL FASTING TIMELINE

  • 8-12 hours before: No solid food
  • 4-6 hours before: No liquids (including water)
  • Exceptions: Small sips of water for essential medications only

DURING FASTING

  • IV hydration maintains fluid balance
  • Electrolyte supplementation continues
  • Anti-nausea medications available if needed

POST-TREATMENT

  • Light foods reintroduced gradually (broth, crackers, fruit)
  • Full meals resume within 24-48 hours as tolerated

Your exact fasting instructions are provided based on your treatment timing.

PROTOCOLS WE HOPE NEVER TO USE

Every possible complication has a rehearsed response protocol:

Cardiac emergencies:

  • Torsades de Pointes (dangerous arrhythmia)
  • Immediate IV magnesium sulfate
  • Electrical cardioversion if needed
  • Overdrive pacing capabilities

Respiratory issues:

  • Oxygen supplementation
  • Airway management equipment
  • Emergency medications

Seizures:

  • Anti-seizure medications immediately available
  • Airway protection protocols
  • Physician response within 60 seconds

Severe nausea/vomiting:

  • Multiple anti-nausea medication options
  • IV hydration adjustment
  • Position changes for comfort

Psychological distress:

  • Therapeutic grounding techniques
  • Benzodiazepine rescue medication (if safe)
  • Continuous emotional support from staff

Our team drills these protocols regularly. Response time is measured in seconds, not minutes.

TREATMENT DOESN’T END WHEN IBOGAINE DOES

The neurological changes ibogaine creates require integration—making sense of insights, implementing behavioral changes, and maintaining progress.

OUR INTEGRATION PROTOCOL

Immediate post-treatment (24-48 hours):

  • Processing sessions with therapists
  • Journaling and reflection time
  • Group sharing (if desired)
  • Rest and nervous system recovery

Before departure:

  • Personalized integration plan
  • Aftercare recommendations
  • Follow-up scheduling
  • Resource connections

Post-departure:

  • Check-in calls at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months
  • Access to integration therapists
  • Peer support group connections
  • Booster treatment options if needed

Why this matters: Ibogaine creates the neurological reset. Integration determines whether changes last.

HOW WE ENSURE PROTOCOL EXCELLENCE

Our protocols aren’t static—they evolve with emerging research and clinical experience:

Continuous improvement:

  • Monthly protocol review by medical team
  • Integration of latest peer-reviewed research
  • Patient outcome tracking and analysis
  • Third-party safety audits
  • Staff training and certification updates

Pharmaceutical-grade ibogaine:

  • Sourced from verified suppliers
  • Tested for purity and potency
  • Proper storage and handling
  • Documented chain of custody

Equipment maintenance:

  • Regular calibration of cardiac monitors
  • Backup systems for all critical equipment
  • Emergency equipment inspected weekly

Why Our Protocols Work

Because we treat ibogaine with the medical seriousness it deserves.

This isn’t experimental medicine practiced casually. It’s evidence-based treatment delivered with hospital-level standards, by physicians who’ve dedicated their careers to this work, in facilities designed specifically for safe psychedelic therapy.

Your safety isn’t an afterthought. It’s the foundation everything else is built on.

Preparing for Treatment

What You'll Need to Do Before Arrival

Once you’re medically cleared for treatment, our Clinical Director will guide you through comprehensive preparation to ensure your body and mind are optimized for healing. Here’s what the preparation process involves:

COMPLETE REQUIRED SCREENING

Before traveling, you’ll need to complete and upload:

  • Echocardiogram – Provides detailed imaging of heart structure and function
  • Liver function panel – Evaluates your body’s ability to metabolize ibogaine safely
  • Additional tests as needed – Based on your medical history and condition

These allow our physicians to confirm eligibility and design your personalized protocol.

MEDICATION ADJUSTMENTS

Certain medications interact dangerously with ibogaine:

  • Antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs)
  • Benzodiazepines (Xanax, Klonopin, Valium)
  • Antipsychotics
  • Stimulants (Adderall, Ritalin, cocaine, methamphetamine)
  • Opioids (depending on your program)

CRITICAL: Never stop medications on your own. Our medical team provides individualized tapering schedules when clinically necessary. Some medications require weeks or months to safely discontinue.

TWO WEEKS BEFORE ARRIVAL

Transition to clean, healing nutrition:

  • Reduce: Caffeine, processed foods, refined sugars, artificial additives
  • Increase: Whole foods, fresh vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, healthy fats
  • Focus: Simple, nutrient-dense meals that reduce inflammation and support healing

THREE DAYS BEFORE ARRIVAL

Enter strict dietary discipline:

  • Eliminate completely: Alcohol, recreational drugs, caffeine, non-prescribed substances
  • Avoid: Heavy, greasy, fried foods that stress digestion
  • Prioritize: Hydration (water, natural juices), light meals, easy digestion

DAY OF TREATMENT

You’ll fast (no food or liquids) for a designated period before ibogaine administration. Our medical team provides exact timing during your stay. Fasting optimizes absorption and reduces nausea risk.

WHY THIS MATTERS: Your diet directly impacts treatment safety and effectiveness. A clean system processes ibogaine more efficiently and reduces complications.

EXERCISE RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Encouraged: Walking, gentle yoga, stretching, light swimming
  • Avoid: Intense workouts, heavy weightlifting, exhausting cardio, competitive sports

Your body needs to be rested and balanced, not depleted.

SLEEP & RECOVERY

Prioritize 7-9 hours of quality sleep nightly in the week before treatment. A well-rested nervous system:

  • Supports neurological healing
  • Enhances therapeutic response
  • Reduces treatment complications
  • Improves integration capacity

HYDRATION PROTOCOL

Drink approximately 2 liters (8 cups) of water daily unless your physician directs otherwise. Proper hydration supports:

  • Electrolyte balance (critical for cardiac safety)
  • Metabolic function
  • Toxin elimination
  • Overall treatment efficacy

SET YOUR INTENTION

Reflect deeply on why you’re seeking treatment. Journal about:

  • What am I ready to heal?
  • What patterns am I prepared to release?
  • What does freedom from my condition look like?
  • What do I hope to understand about myself?

Clear intention creates psychological focus and enhances therapeutic depth.

STRESS REDUCTION PRACTICES

Begin daily practices that calm your nervous system:

  • Meditation: Even 10-15 minutes daily
  • Journaling: Process fears, hopes, emotions
  • Breathwork: Box breathing, 4-7-8 technique
  • Prayer or spiritual practice: If meaningful to you

Reduced baseline stress increases your capacity for healing work.

BUILD YOUR SUPPORT NETWORK

Inform trusted family or friends about your journey:

  • Where you’ll be and when
  • What you’re seeking to heal
  • How they can support you after treatment
  • Your integration needs upon return

Post-treatment integration is significantly strengthened when you have understanding support at home.

PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates. Mexican immigration strictly enforces this requirement.

WHAT TO PACK

Clothing:

  • Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes for treatment and recovery
  • Layers for varying comfort (facilities are climate-controlled)
  • Comfortable walking shoes

Essential Items:

  • Personal toiletries (we provide basics, but bring preferences)

WHAT NOT TO BRING

  • Expensive jewelry or valuables
  • Work laptops (this is healing time)
  • Recreational substances of any kind

72 HOURS BEFORE ARRIVAL

Absolutely do not use:

  • Alcohol
  • Recreational drugs (cocaine, MDMA, cannabis, etc.)
  • Non-prescribed benzodiazepines or opioids
  • Stimulants
  • Any substance not approved by our medical team

Exception: If you’re in our Detoxification Program, opioid use before arrival is addressed through our stabilization protocol.

AVOID THESE ACTIVITIES

  • High-risk sports or dangerous activities
  • Physically exhausting work or exercise
  • Sudden dietary or medication changes without approval

WHY THIS MATTERS: These substances create dangerous interactions with ibogaine, compromise physical readiness, and can be life-threatening during treatment.
